THE MUSIC OF ROME

ORA SINGERS

Director Suzy Digby OBE

7.30pmSt Mary’s Arts Centre, Sandwich

“Best Ensemble of the Year” Opus Klassik Awards 2018

The ’music comet’ Ora Singers has already established itself as arguably the world’s leading chamber choir.  With a host of accolades, a recording contract with Harmonia Mundi, it is the brainchild of its Director, Suzi Digby OBE, who has perhaps done most to enrich the choral traditions of British music than any other single individual.

Their programme is inspired by Rome's rich catalogue of Renaissance composers, with Allegri’s iconic Miserere and Sir James MacMillan’s setting of the same text.  Renaissance masterpieces by Palestrina to Ingegenri, Anerio to Porta sit side by side with stunning new reflections.

Truly, this is choral music’s new golden age…  The Independent on Sunday

It’s hard to fault the vocal qualities of ORA Singers, the choral ensemble formed in 2014 by Suzi Digby. They sail through the air with an almost astonishing purity of tone, perfect balance and togetherness — ideal weapons for their chosen repertoire, Renaissance masterpieces and the new fruits of contemporary composers. Stage presentation is equally nifty as they elegantly split into separate groups, form a big circle or sing while descending spiral staircases, all with atmospheric lighting. The Times
