young film programmers group

At the invitation of Film Hub South East we are running a Young Film Programmers Group.

We have had two meetings and one film showing.  We are looking for more young people between the age of 16 - 25 to join us.    The project is for six months and the aim it to show 5 films which should be British, World, Classic or Youth and ensure that there are at least an audience of 30 at each.   The Project will be run out of the Linden Hall Studio in partnership with DMA.  We have shown our first film BROKEN Directed by Rufus Norris and our next two films are MILLION on 1st June 6.30 Directed by Danny Boyle and PRIDE Directed by Matthew Warchus as part of the Deal Music and Arts Festival on the 1st July at 8.00pm.   If successful the project will continue.

 

The project

5 - 10 young people make up a programming team to plan, market and deliver public cinema screenings as part of a YP strand

Film screenings for young people (British, World, Classic, Youth)

30 or more paying cinemagoers to each event, marketing through Instagram, Facebook, word-of-mouth and/or flyers – to cover your running costs and at least break even

 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

FILM PROGRAMMING and EVENT MANAGEMENT:

Cultural cinema and film exhibition industry, planning and selecting films, target audience, problem-solving with budget and box-office constraints, film marketing, front of house experience.

 

LIFE SKILLS:

Self-confidence, team work, problem-solving, resilience, persistence, working to deadlines, leadership and self evaluation.

 

EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

Working in a cinema experience, event management experience, working to a budget, writing copy, social media skills, showing initiative, and working to deadlines.

The next meeting is on Monday 6th May 6.00 at Linden Hall Studio, St George’s Road, Deal
