Three of the UKs leading orchestral and chamber musicians – Timothy Orpen, Fiona Winning and John Reid – join forces to celebrate the rich and varied sounds of the clarinet, viola and piano trio. In this exploration of the musical world of Robert and Clara Schumann clarinet and viola take turns in the spotlight, alongside music for the trio by Schumann, Kurtág and David Matthews, a former Deal Festival director. The concert opens with Mozart’s warm and jovial ‘Kegelstatt’ Trio, named after the Skittle Alley in which it was supposed to have been written.
