Music at Canterbury Cathedral
We are very proud indeed to release this film of Music from Canterbury Cathedral, free for all to enjoy. The film will be premiered on our YouTube channel on Thursday 3 September at 6pm and will be available thereafter. Similarly, hi-resolution recordings will be available from the same time on our new SoundCloud page.
Despite the easing of conditions, we realised that the safest and most reliable way to bring music to our community is via film. Deal Music & Arts has been extremely fortunate to have been given permission to make music in our great cathedral in Canterbury, and we thank the Dean and Chapter for their full support, and also Dr David Flood for his invaluable advice.
Jamie Rogers is an Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral. Jamie will be known to many in Deal. Deal was Jamie’s hometown throughout his childhood, and he was one of Deal Music & Arts first Bursary Award recipients, enabling him to study keyboard with David Rees Williams. Kenneth Peers joined the Royal Marines School of Music in Deal when he was only 15, and he has been a proud Marine musician for many years, before concentrating on recording engineering and sound production for major national events. Timothy Edlin is a former Canterbury Cathedral chorister, and happened to be staying with his family in East Kent while on a break from his opera work in Germany. With DMA’s own Peter Cook and Paul Edlin, this film became a true ‘bringing together’ of the Cathedral and Deal Music & Arts.
The film also features the new Harrison & Harrison organ, only completed earlier this year. This is one of the first recordings made on this great cathedral organ, one of the finest of its kind in the world.

We want to make sure that music can be made by professional musicians, especially musicians either locally based or with connections to Deal Music & Arts and/or special spaces that are important to the musical infra structure of East Kent. We plan to release these films in the coming weeks and will ensure that everyone on our Mailing List are the first to know the details.
