Haydn & Beethoven and the Idea of Patronage

In the second of our focuses on the work of Ludwig van Beethoven, writer and broadcaster Christopher Cook discusses the idea of patronage and compares the way it affected the creative work of Haydn and Beethoven, one who embraced patronage and the other who shunned it, but nonetheless relied on it.

To complement Christopher’s talk we give links to specific works cited in his talk.  In certain cases these are performances by artists or ensembles that have performed in Deal.

In the coming weeks, Deal Music & Arts is creating a series of bespoke films of musical performances.  We want to make sure that music can be made by professional musicians, especially musicians either locally based or with connections to Deal Music & Arts and/or special spaces that are important to the musical infra structure of East Kent.  We plan to release these films in the coming weeks and will ensure that everyone on our Mailing List are the first to know the details.

Deal Music & Arts wishes well to all its fellow arts organisations, musicians and artists at this challenging time.  We so look forward to a moment when we can bring live music to Deal once again!
