DRINKPEN: Everywhen and Phil Self’s Dau

Smugglers StageIn our second collaboration with Smugglers Festival, we present two unique bands. Joe Inkpen, composer and guitarist, performs a set of exciting new works with a five-piece band playing in multiple simultaneous tempi;

Joe’s musical exploration has created ways to compose and perform music that is ‘polytemporal’, with one of his pieces awarded the Peter Maxwell Davies Prize in 2019 as part of Canterbury Festival.

After the success of his debut album Zed Zed, Kent-based musician Phil Self brings his project ‘Dau’ to Deal, exploring soundscapes through his original compositions using ambient, drone and noise-based sound, including ones from his latest release Gilly’s Wood.
