DRINKPEN: Everywhen and Phil Self’s Dau

Smugglers StageIn our second collaboration with Smugglers Festival, we present two unique bands. Joe Inkpen, composer and guitarist, performs a set of exciting new works with a five-piece band playing in multiple simultaneous tempi;

Joe’s musical exploration has created ways to compose and perform music that is ‘polytemporal’, with one of his pieces awarded the Peter Maxwell Davies Prize in 2019 as part of Canterbury Festival.

After the success of his debut album Zed Zed, Kent-based musician Phil Self brings his project ‘Dau’ to Deal, exploring soundscapes through his original compositions using ambient, drone and noise-based sound, including ones from his latest release Gilly’s Wood.

This gig overlaps with the NYJO concert that evening. If you’d like to go to both, reduced price tickets available for the second set of Smugglers Stage at the Astor that night, which is DRINKPEN: Everywhen. The set with DRINKPEN will start at 9.30pm approximately. If you would like to take up this offer, you should go to the Astor box office in person, either in advance to secure your place or on the night. Tickets for this set cost £6.50.
