Hosted and curated by Jacob Sam-La Rose

Saturday, 6 July

11:00 am

The Cleary Hall, Landmark Centre
129 High Street, Deal, CT14 6BB

Hosted and curated by Jacob Sam-La Rose, poets working at the forefront of contemporary poetry perform their work across the day. Poets include former and current members of Barbican Young Poets brought together by Jacob Sam-La Rose, a British-Guyanese poet and one of the country’s most inspirational writers and educators.

The morning’s readings will include ones by award-winning Kent poet Maggie Harris whose many awards include the Guyana Prize for Literature, the Commonwealth Short Story prize for the Caribbean and the Wales Poetry Award 2020. She has published seven books of poetry, her latest is On Watching a Lemon Sail the Sea.

We are also joined by multi-disciplinary artist Laurie Ogden. Laurie was winner of the Ambit 2021 Poetry Prize, longlisted for the Jerwood Poetry fellowship and has been commissioned by the likes of Barbican, Roundhouse and Sky Arts. Her debut poetry pamphlet, Humaning, was published by flipped eye in 2021.
