Experience an immersive promenade performance in the atmospheric basement chambers of Deal Castle, once part of Henry VIII’s coastal defence. Staff and students from Canterbury Christ Church University will create a dance-led performance in the ancient stone vaults, with mesmerising motion-tracked visuals, to music from celebrated violinist and composer Anna Phoebe’s album Sea Souls. The dancers will draw you through the chambers to a live performance by Anna on strings and electronics, with music composed especially for the castle as well as pieces from her upcoming album. The dancers will then lead you into the light to enjoy a glass of wine in this extraordinary setting.
Please note: there are at least 20 uneven steps into the castle basement where this event takes place and the ground in the basement is uneven. The show will be a ‘promenade’ between different chambers that will require standing for its duration. There will be chairs for those people not able to stand for this length of time. Spaces are limited so early booking is recommended.
The performance has a total running time of approximately one hour.
