French Connections 2 – Sacred Grief

For the second concert in their series, our visiting artists share a programme designed around St John’s wonderful 2018 organ, giving a concert of sacred music including Baroque pieces by Pergolesi, Bach and Stradella together with ones by the colossus of 20th century organ music, Messiaen.

Giovanni Pergolesi – Stabat Mater 1st movement for 2 voices, organ and bass
Olivier Messiaen – Louange A L’Éternité De Jésus for cello and organ
Johann Sebastian Bach – Suites for solo cello (extracts)
St Matthew Passion N.35 “Geduld” in A minor
St Matthew Passion N.65 “Mache dich, mein Herze, rein”
Antonio Alessandro Stradella – Pietà Signore
